The scan projects I work on offer re-contextualised ideas derived from my painting practice. Scans often become points of intersection between a line of thought and an experience. This intersection occurs in the gesture of pressing the scanner's button.

The exhibition at the Custom House Gallery in early 2014 had supposedly authentic source material for a variety of paintings on show. Many of these objects, as well as images, photos, photocopies, drawings, paintings, were ersatz ephemara that were created after the fact. The intent here was to create a seemingly familial relationship with the viewer - as if they were being granted a window into the creative mind of the artist. This created a context in which the show could be considered. This work was thematically related to the sea, identity, auntenticity, and agency, and the formation of representations through pictorial means. It also had a jar of paint screwed to the wall. The work continues in the form of an online equivalent of the project - the subdomain appendix.willokane.ie. This subdomain is now moving into its third iteration
